Food and nutrition is part of everyday life. Dietitians support people to make food choices throughout life that will maximise their health.

They provide evidence-based nutrition and dietary advice and guidance to the public, healthcare professionals and managers, local councils, industry, academic institutions and the media.

Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law. This means people are protected and can be assured that they will get the latest credible evidence-based information.

Dietitians call on Welsh Government to:

  1. Ensure that people in Wales can consume a healthy and sustainable diet no matter what their background and circumstances.
    • Empower people to develop the knowledge and skills to buy, prepare and cook healthy, affordable, sustainable food for themselves and their families particularly in the most disadvantaged communities.
    • Ensure the best use of dietetic expertise by training health, social care, public and third sector organisations to promote healthy eating.
    • Ensure that good quality food is provided in all public sector establishments including early years, schools and care setting for older adults in line with national standards.
  2. Recognise that good nutrition from an early age is essential for prevention of obesity, diabetes and other chronic conditions.
    • Empower parents and carers to give children the best start in life through dietetic provision of evidence based nutrition messages about the importance of and ways to establish healthy eating for life.
    • Guarantee the provision of Healthy Start vitamins to all children under the age of five.
    • Ensure children and young people can make healthy food choices by providing evidence based nutrition messages and opportunities to develop practical food skills throughout all stages of the national curriculum.
  3. Ensure that everyone living with a chronic condition has access to dietetic support so that they can manage their condition and be independent as long as possible.
    • Ensure that children and young people who are overweight or obese and their families can access evidence based weight management services, that utilises dietetic expertise, and meets their needs.
    • Utilise dietetic expertise to assess, treat and educate (individually or in groups) people with chronic conditions in a timely manner so that they can make long term behaviour changes to improve their quality of life.
    • Ensure best use of dietetic expertise to work collaboratively with others to promote optimum nutrition and care for older people in the community, reducing the risk of malnutrition and unplanned hospital admission.
  4. Recognise dietitians as key leaders and professionals in supporting public bodies to meet the seven goals outlined in the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (Wales) 2015.
    • Commit to building dietetic capacity to work with people and communities to reduce inequalities in health.
    • Ensure the food environment in Wales is sustainable and health promoting.
    • Ensure dietetic expertise is integrated into public sector procurement.

Mae bwyd a maeth yn rhan o fywyd pob dydd. Mae Dietegwyr yn cefnogi pobl i wneud dewisiadau ynglyn â bwyd drwy gydol eu hoes a fydd yn rhoi’r iechyd gorau posibl iddynt.

Maent yn rhoi cyngor ac arweiniad ar faeth a dieteg seiliedig ar dystiolaeth i’r cyhoedd, gweithwyr iechyd proffesiynol a rheolwyr iechyd, cynghorau lleol, diwydiannau, sefydliadau addysg a’r cyfryngau.

Dietegwyr yw’r unig weithwyr proffesiynol maetheg sy’n cael eu rheoleiddio gan y gyfraith. Golyga hyn fod pobl yn cael eu diogelu a gallant fod yn sicr y byddant yn cael y wybodaeth seiliedig ar dystiolaeth gredadwy ddiweddaraf.

Gallwch ymddiried mewn dietegydd i wybod ynglyn â maeth

Dietegwyr yng Nghymru yn galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i:

  1. Sicrhau y gall pobl yng Nghymru fwyta diet iach a cynaliadwy waeth beth fo’u cefndir a’u hamgylchiadau.
    • Grymuso pobl i ddatblygu’r wybodaeth a’r sgiliau er mwyn prynu, paratoi a choginio bwyd iach, fforddiadwy a chynaliadwy ar eu cyfer hwy eu hunain a’u teuluoedd, yn arbennig yng nghymunedau mwyaf difreintiedig Cymru.
    • Sicrhau’r defnydd gorau o arbenigedd dietegol drwy hyfforddi sefydliadau iechyd, gofal cymdeithasol, sector cyhoeddus a thrydydd sector i hyrwyddo bwyta’n iach.
    • Sicrhau bod bwyd o ansawdd da yn cael ei ddarparu ym mhob sefydliad sector cyhoeddus yn cynnwys y blynyddoedd cynnar, ysgolion a lleoliadau gofal ar gyfer oedolion hn yn unol â safonau cenedlaethol.
  2. Cydnabod bod maeth da o oedran cynnar yn hanfodol er mwyn atal gordewdra, diabetes a chyflyrau cronig eraill.
    • Grymuso rhieni a gofalwyr i roi’r dechrau gorau mewn bywyd i blant drwy ddarpariaeth ddietegol negeseuon maeth seiliedig ar dystiolaeth ynglyn â phwysigrwydd, a ffyrdd o sefydlu, patrwm bwyta iach am oes.
    • Gwarantu fitaminau Cychwyn Iach i bob plentyn dan bump oed.
    • Sicrhau y gall plant a phobl ifanc wneud dewisiadau bwyd iach drwy ddarparu negeseuon maeth seiliedig ar dystiolaeth a chyfleoedd i ddatblygu sgiliau bwyd ymarferol ar bob cam o’r cwricwlwm cenedlaethol.
  3. Sicrhau bod gan bawb sy’n byw gyda chyflwr cronig fynediad at gefnogaeth ddietegol fel y gallant reoli eu cyflwr a bod yn annibynnol cyhyd â phosibl.
    • Sicrhau y gall plant a phobl ifanc sydd dros bwysau neu’n ordew a’u teuluoedd gael mynediad at wasanaethau rheoli pwysau seiliedig ar dystiolaeth, sy’n defnyddio arbenigedd dietegol, ac sy’n diwallu eu hanghenion.
    • Defnyddio arbenigedd dietegol i asesu, trin ac addysgu (yn unigol neu mewn grwp) pobl sydd â chyflyrau cronig mewn modd amserol fel y gallant wneud newidiadau ymddygiad hirdymor er mwyn gwella eu hansawdd bywyd.
    • Sicrhau’r defnydd gorau o arbenigedd dietegol i gydweithio ag eraill er mwyn hyrwyddo’r maethiad a’r gofal gorau ar gyfer pobl hyn yn y gymuned, gan leihau’r perygl eu bod yn dioddef o ddiffyg maeth a’u bod yn gorfod cael eu derbyn i’r ysbyty heb gynllunio hynny.
  4. Cydnabod dietegwyr fel arweinwyr a gweithwyr proffesiynol allweddol mewn cefnogi cyrff cyhoeddus i fodloni’r saith nod a amlinellir yn Neddf Llesiant Cenedlaethau’r Dyfodol (Cymru) 2016.
    • Ymrwymo i ddatblygu gallu dietegol er mwyn gweithio gyda phobl a chymunedau i leihau anghydraddoldeb ym maes iechyd.
    • Sicrhau bod yr amgylchedd bwyd yng Nghymru yn gynaliadwy ac yn hybu iechyd.
    • Sicrhau bod arbenigedd dietegol yn cael ei integreiddio i gaffael yn y sector cyhoeddus.
