Celebrating BDA members' successes in Wales

The Advancing Healthcare Awards recognise and celebrate the work of Allied Health Professionals, Healthcare Scientists and those who work alongside them in support roles, leading innovative healthcare practice across the UK. We’re thrilled that three of our members in Wales have won awards this year!

BDA Ibex awardee: Janie Gordon

Janie Gordon is Professional Head, Nutrition & Clinical Dietetic Service of NHS Fife and Chair of BDA Scottish Board. Here she tells us about her career in Dietetics.

BDA’s Andy Burman is awarded Outstanding Achievement Award

Andy Burman, who retires as the BDA’s CEO this summer, has been awarded an International Academy of Nutrition Educators Outstanding Achievement Award for contributions to the field of nutrition education.

BDA Ibex awardee: Ruth Wood-Martin

Ruth Wood-Martin has worked as a dietitian since 1983. Now retired, she has worked in a range of settings including the NHS and in sports dietetics. She was awarded the Ibex in 2022.

BDA Ibex awardee: Lauren Bowen

Lauren is currently the Head of Patient Food Service for ISS UK and Chair of the Food Services Specialist Group. She was awarded an Ibex Award in 2022.

BDA Member Anne Mensforth honoured with an MBE for her services to Dietetics

BDA member and dietitian Anne Mensforth, Home Enteral Nutrition Service, Nutrition and Dietetic Service, Families, Young People and Children’s Directorate, at the Leicestershire Partnership Trust has been awarded an MBE for services to Dietetics in the Queen's Birthday Honours. Anne shares what it means to receive the honour.

BDA Fellowship awardee: Dr Elizabeth Weekes

Dr Elizabeth Weekes is a retired Consultant Dietitian at Guy's & St Thomas NHS and Foundation Trust and retired Senior Clinical Lecturer at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Elizabeth was awarded a BDA Fellowship in 2022.

Dr Julie Lanigan is Honorary Associate Professor at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Julie was awarded a BDA Fellowship in 2022. We asked what it means to have won the award.

BDA Fellowship awardee: Maxine Cartz

Maxine Cartz is a Dietitian for Medirest, the Healthcare division of Compass Group UK & Ireland who was awarded a BDA Fellowship in 2021.

BDA Fellowship awardee: Sian Porter

Sian Porter, Freelance Consultant Dietitian (Mole Communications), was awarded a BDA Fellowship in 2020 for her achievements in dietetics.
