Following a critical meeting with the newly appointed Northern Ireland Health Minister on 15 January, the BDA has taken the decision to suspend our industrial action ballot.

Discussions between Departmental officials and trade unions have resulted in an outline agreement setting out proposals for BDA members to receive pay parity with health workers in England, backdated to 1 April 2019. The BDA will begin a period of consultation next week and will be recommending that members accept the offer.

Annette Mansell-Green, Director of Trade Union and Public Affairs said:

“I would urge members to respond to the consultation and accept the offer. For too long dietitians in Northern Ireland have fallen behind colleagues in England on pay. We are pleased that within days of the power sharing agreement such rapid progress has been made on this issue. This result demonstrates that when we take action, especially with our sister unions, we can affect positive change.”

Detailed information will be circulated to our members as soon as possible.
