Aim

To provide dietitians specialising in eating disorders with the essential knowledge and skills required to work in this area.

Learning Outcomes

  • To be able to apply starvation physiology to eating disorder (ED) clients.
  • To begin applying a nutritional assessment to clients with ED
  • To identify risk factors when re-feeding clients with ED and the management of this.
  • To explore the role of MARSIPAN across services.
  • To understand the nutritional therapy for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder
  • To gain an understanding of psychological approaches used to support nutritional changes.
  • To develop a working knowledge of the role of the Dietitian within the MDT.

About this course

This course has been developed to allow attendees to be able to understand the physiology of starvation and nutritional assessment, advice and implement a Dietetic intervention. The course allows attendees to understand their role as a Dietitian within the MDT and support clients to changes behaviours around nutrition.

We will cover starvation physiology, nutritional assessment, treatment planning, the Dietetic Role in psychological delivery as well as how to support clients to make changes. Re-feeding and the role of MARSIPAN will be discussed. This will be an interactive course aimed to learn through discussion and engagement.

The course will run over 2 days and there is an E-learning module that will produce an introduction to the course.

The course is aimed at Dietitian new to Eating Disorders or Dietitian who wish to update their knowledge and skills in Eating Disorders.
