The British Dietetic Association and Due Diligence Checking Ltd have teamed up to bring you the BDA Vetting and Barring Scheme. This will enable you, as a member of the BDA, to obtain an enhanced DBS Disclosure (formerly CRB).

How do I join the Scheme?

It's simple. You need to apply to join the Scheme by completing the Scheme Application Form and emailing it to us at [email protected]. Please read the step-by-step guidance below on joining the Scheme.

Step 1: Receive login email from DDC

Once you have completed the Scheme Application Form, you will receive a login email from DDC. Follow the link in the email to go through to the DDC DBS application login page. Enter your login details contained in the email - but please be careful as these are case sensitive. If you have lost your login email then lost password facilities are available on the login page. We recommend that you change your password to something memorable as soon as you have completed step 2.

Step 2: Make payment

Once logged in you will see a payment button - click this and you will be taken to a payment portal where you can enter your payment card details. The cost of your enhanced DBS check is £61.60 which covers the fee set by the DBS and DDC’s administration fee.

Step 3: Complete online application form

Once payment details have been processed you will be taken to an online application form. Guidance is provided on the process of filling out the form and the information you will need to enter. You will need to have the following information to hand:

  • Five years of full address history
  • UK National Insurance number (if applicable)
  • Three original identity documents including proof of address and proof of date of birth. Full details of the documents accepted by the DBS are available on the online portal, but most people provide three of the following:
    • one ‘Group 1 document’ such as a passport or driving licence
    • two ‘Group 2b documents’ such as a utility bill and bank statement.

For more information on the document requirements you can read DDC’s Applicant Guidance pagesYou can also access the form, once logged in, via the menu at the top of the page by clicking ‘Form’ - you can view the DDC Privacy Policy on this page and on the form. For more information please go to DDC’s Policies Page.

Step 4: Receive your pack in the post and send DDC your identity documents for verification

Once you have entered your form information and submitted document details you will be taken to a final page confirming that DDC will post a self-addressed envelope to you, so you can send DDC your original ID documents (you will receive your pack within five working days). Please ensure that you send the same documents that you have nominated on the DDC online portal, to ensure there is no delay in processing your application. There should be a minimum of three documents nominated. DDC will also provide guidance notes with the pack to help with selecting the correct documents.

Step 5: DDC to process the application

DDC will process your application and submit it to the Disclosure and Barring Service. Your original ID documents will be returned by Royal Mail ‘Tracked Delivery’ to your home address. DDC will aim to complete this within two working days. This will require a signature upon delivery - if you are not available Royal Mail will leave a 'calling card' and store the package at your local sorting office for up to 18 days. If you would prefer not to sign for this package please include a note with your documents.

If you have provided a mobile phone number or email address, DDC will send you an SMS/email to confirm when the package is on its way back to you, and guidance on how you can track it. Royal Mail Tracked Service normally takes three to five days for delivery, however you can upgrade the postal return route if you wish. For more information please go to DDC postage options.

Step 6 – DBS issue disclosure

The DBS will post your certificate to your home address, as entered on the form. Please note that for DBS applications this is the only copy of the certificate and you may be required to show this to a member of the BDA team if requested.
