Over the last 5 years, maternity and neonatal services have undergone extensive review.  The priorities for change can be found in the following national documents:

Dietetic Workforce Documents

Dietitian Staffing on Neonatal Units - Neonatal Sub-Group Recommendations for Commissioning

Dietitians play an essential role in the neonatal multidisciplinary team (MDT), providing advanced, discipline specific knowledge and skills in order to optimise care and outcomes for babies and their families. Service standards for neonatal dietetic services have been set by the British Dietetic Association Neonatal Dietitians Interest Group (BDA NDiG), endorsed by BAPM, and can be found here

Competencies for Neonatal Dietitians - Neonatal Subgroup Recommendations

This framework identifies the minimum standards required for dietitians to provide a quality service to babies on neonatal units.  The framework can also be used as a guide to the range and level of knowledge and skills required by the dieitian in order to work at a safe, effective and professional level within the neonatal environment.  Click here to view the competencies NDIG neonatal_dietitian_competencies 2018.pdf (currently in review)
